This November saw the third CPP cooking class at Portishead Youth and Community Centre and you wouldn’t believe what was on the menu.  Pea and mint soup with bread for starters. Then for our main, an eclectic mix of food requests such as vegetable spiced kebabs, cheese and onion rolls and wait for it….Sushi!  Dessert was a dreamy Guinness chocolate cake with fruit.

These cooking classes started a year ago after one of our North Somerset members told us about her interest in learning how to cook.  We loved the idea so teamed up with Sarah and Clare, who are Travelling Kitchen.  A social enterprise whose goal is to promote a better awareness of the food we eat and to teach essential cooking skills in an accessible way.   Each class is 3.5 hours long with half an hour at the end where we get together round the table and eat what we’ve created.  There is always plenty of leftovers to be taken home and recipes are shared for future recreations, of which we’ve head there’ve been a few!

With popularity growing, we hope to bring you more cooking classes next year along with a couple of kids classes during holiday time.  It’s great seeing our member’s confidence and skills in the kitchen grow with each class.
